Welcome to The Bid Zone: A New Chapter Begins

Every new venture has an origin story, and The Bid Zone is no different. If you've found your way here, you might already know me from my other business, Smallbizbod, where for several years I've been helping small business owners get the best from their time, tackle back-office chaos, and build more organised, efficient businesses. But something kept coming up, again and again, in conversations with clients and fellow business owners: tendering.

The questions were always similar. "How do we even start?" "We wrote a bid but didn't win; where did we go wrong?" "We don't have time to do this properly." It became clear there was a real gap, and that I was in a unique position to fill it.

Where It All Started

I'm Sarah, and I have over 30 years of experience in business support roles across a wide range of industries. Through Smallbizbod - a flexible, virtual business support service - I've had the privilege of working alongside some brilliant small business owners, helping them with everything from bookkeeping and project management to admin and business planning.

Among the many services I've offered over the years, bid management and writing has always been close to my heart. In fact, I felt so strongly about helping businesses navigate the tendering process that I wrote The Bidder's Handbook - a practical guide for anyone looking to compete for contracts with more confidence and clarity.

Smallbizbod has been recognised along the way too, including being named a UK Small Business Awards Finalist 2025 (Top 10 Best Home Based Business and Highly Recommended Best Small Business), a LoveBiz Awards Nominee for Business to Business Impact, and a Finalist for Independent Virtual Assistant of the Year at the East Midlands PA Awards 2024. I'm proud of everything that's been built there. But the demand for specialist bid support has grown to the point where it deserves its own dedicated home.

So, What Is The Bid Zone?

Why Tendering Matters for SMEs

Collaboration counts!
Collaboration counts!

Winning contracts, whether public sector, private sector, or framework agreements, can be transformational for a small business. It provides consistent revenue, credibility, and a platform for sustainable growth. But the tendering process can feel daunting, especially when you're competing against larger, more established organisations.

Here's something I've seen time and again: small businesses lose bids not because their work isn't good enough, but because their bid doesn't communicate it well enough. The quality of your response matters as much as the quality of your service. That's the gap The Bid Zone exists to close.
